I'm a native New Yorker relocated to San Francisco to serve as Education Director at the Letterform Archive. Teaching and writing about typography, design, and visual culture have been an important part of my professional practice for more than 20 years.
As an editorial art director, I created concepts and page layouts for everything from Harper's Magazine to iPad apps for O, the Oprah Magazine.
My first book, The Elements of Visual Grammar, was published by Princeton University Press in February 2024.
I was Program Director of Graphic Design at the University of the Arts from 2018–2024.
BFA: Rhode Island School of Design, Illustration. MFA: School of Visual Arts, Design Criticism (D-Crit) program.
Random Info: Always curious, frequently witty, occasionally curmudgeonly. Reading is like breathing. I have a dark sense of humor but I walk on the sunny side of the street. Morning self is saddened by evening self, who stays up way too late.
Drop me a line! I’d love to hear from you.
